Start your aviation journey with the Yorkshire Aviation Academy (YAA)
Welcome to the Yorkshire Aviation Academy, based at Leeds East Airport, formerly RAF Church Fenton. The airfield and local area is steeped in aviation history, pilots have been training and learning to fly here for 60 years. Our flight training organisation has been established to build upon and continue this great aviation heritage. Whether you are considering becoming a Private Pilot, flying for pure enjoyment with friends and family, or have your sights set on becoming an Airline Pilot, we are here to help you!
We aim to deliver a training program that fulfils the specific requirements of our customers. Our pledge is to do this with safety as the paramount consideration, incorporating an individually tailored training program designed to help you achieve your goals.
We offer guidance and mentoring to all our pilots, whether you are just embarking on your initial training, undertaking further training or pursuing your commercial licence.
Our advanced training courses include restricted instrument and night ratings, all designed to help you enhance your pilot skills.
You can enjoy the thrill of flying an aircraft while taking in the stunning views of Yorkshire with one of our trial flying lessons. It’s the perfect way to start your aviation journey! Call directly or contact us through this website.
The Private Pilot Licence gives the holder the privileges required to pilot an aircraft for private leisure purposes and can be held by pilots who simply wish to fly for fun with friends and family, or as the starting point for pilots seeking a career in aviation.
The IMC Rating course is an essential course that trains pilots to deal with a wider range of weather conditions during the flight or when coming in to land. The IMC Rating is an excellent way of developing your skills along with your confidence.
Take control of a light aircraft and fly over the Yorkshire countryside. As a one off experience or the first step towards an Aviation Career. Your experienced instructor will explain the basics of controlling the aircraft and then allow you to take control.
A Night Rating enables pilots to operate under VFR (Visual Flight Rules) during the hours of darkness. A Night Rating is a hugely useful licence privilege for all pilots, and for student commercial pilots, a requirement!
If you already have your PPL, it’s now time to build up flight hours, also known as Pilot in Command Hours (PIC). Hour building is an essential part of your pilot training journey, the more PIC hours a pilot logs, the greater the chance of securing a career as a commercial pilot.
We host regular PPL theory brush-ups by the subject right here at YAA. If you’re struggling in a particular subject area, please contact us, and we’ll provide you with the upcoming dates for our theory brush-ups!
